Key Takeaways from QSR Evolution 2026

Our team recently attended QSR Evolution 2026 in Atlanta, where restaurant leaders discussed AI, labor, growth and the guest experience.

AI was everywhere, but the conversation around it is becoming more practical. The key question was not whether restaurants should use AI, but which problems it should solve, and how. The AI workshop emphasized identifying operational challenges first and then measuring whether technology creates real value versus extra steps and red tape. When employees have better tools and stronger support, they are better positioned to deliver great hospitality.

Labor discussions focused on the meaty stuff that we at EyeSpy really like to think about – culture, retention, leadership and frontline engagement were all central themes, with Black Box Intelligence sharing a helpful early look at its 2026 restaurant labor market trends. The data showed that what we always say is true – happy employees lead to happy guests. This is especially true as brands grow across hundreds of locations.

That makes consistency increasingly important. Combining mystery shopping with employee feedback and operational data can give leaders a clearer view of what is happening across the business before problems affect guests. Learn how we can help with this here

The “Loyalty Reinvented” session reinforced that discounts alone do not create lasting loyalty. Guests return when they trust a brand and consistently enjoy the experience. The same idea came through in the “Drive-Thru of the Future” discussion: speed matters, but accuracy and hospitality matter too. We have a simple formula for turning new guests into loyal regulars. Datassential’s menu innovation frameworks offered another reminder that restaurant decisions should be guided by consumer demand and long-term strategy. Menu, procurement, labor and technology decisions all eventually reach the guest.

QSR Evolution brought together leaders from Burger King, Chick-fil-A, Shake Shack, White Castle and Texas Roadhouse. Across these different brands, their main challenges were always along the lines of “how do you grow without losing what makes the brand special?”That is something we can help you accomplish. That is also where we see EyeSpy heading. Mystery shopping used to answer, “How did we do?” The more important questions now are, “What is happening?” “Why?” and “What should we do next?”

Of course, some of the best moments happened outside the sessions. We enjoyed time with Ike Shehadeh of Ike’s Love & Sandwiches, and connected with Bodine Berger of Broken Yolk, Michael Lassen of Bubbakoo’s Burritos, Jake White of B&B Theatres and Jason from Liquidity Social. All of this culminated in an epic and appropriately out of key karaoke performance of Push It by Salt-N-Pepa.

Our top ten takeaways are

  1. AI must produce measurable business results.
  2. Technology should empower people, not replace hospitality.
  3. Happy employees = happy guests.
  4. Consistency is one of the biggest challenges of multi-unit growth.
  5. Guest loyalty is emotional.
  6. Hospitality is an important competitive advantage, especially now.
  7. Data is only valuable when it suggests action.
  8. Restaurants need real-time visibility into what’s happening in their locations.
  9. Leadership and culture are operational strategies in their own right.
